How Autokausta Turned Sobriety Control into a Daily Standard on Construction Sites

Autokausta is one of the largest construction and road-building companies in Lithuania, operating since 1997. The company also produces concrete, asphalt, and metal structures, manages quarries, and provides design and waste management services. Its technical base is extensive — with more than 350 specialized pieces of equipment, and projects currently running at 35 different sites.

As the company expanded and its workforce grew to nearly 900 employees at its peak, the need for smart solutions to optimize processes, reduce costs, and minimize human error became increasingly important. Autokausta places strong emphasis not only on quality but also on safety, environmental responsibility, and technological efficiency. One of its core values is a preventive approach to safety and risk management.
Why the Company Chose Worksober?

Before implementing Worksober, sobriety checks were performed selectively — safety specialists would visit various sites to test random employees. Since the company’s projects are spread across Lithuania, sometimes up to 100 km apart, it was difficult to ensure consistent and timely testing for everyone.

As the company grew and sought greater efficiency, it decided to eliminate the human factor and implement a technological solution that would ensure continuous prevention, reduce costs, and provide real-time visibility across all job sites. Worksober proved to be the perfect fit — combining sobriety testing with work time tracking in one system.

How Worksober Helped?

In early 2021, Autokausta began using Worksober solutions. Today, the company operates 33 sobriety testing devices, most of which are stationary, with the rest being mobile units.

  • Stationary devices are typically installed in employee facilities at construction sites.
  • Mobile devices are used in remote locations where access to electricity is limited, ensuring control even at temporary or frequently changing job sites.

Testing is performed twice a day — when employees arrive at and leave the site. Additional testing can be conducted during the workday if necessary. The system automatically records the start and end of work, serving as both a sobriety check and a time-tracking tool. All data is accessible remotely, allowing managers to monitor and respond in real time.

Results

The Worksober solution has helped Autokausta achieve tangible results:

  • Fully automated sobriety control across all company operations: from main to remote sites.
  • Real-time access to data, showing who is working, when, and where.
  • No need for additional staff or manual intervention: the system operates independently.
  • A clear and consistent process for all employees: removing subjectivity and unequal treatment.
  • Reduced risks and fewer violations: initially 7–10 incidents were recorded daily, but this number has significantly decreased.
  • Stronger preventive impact: employees know that control is constant and cannot be bypassed.
Summary

Worksober enabled Autokausta to standardize and automate sobriety checks across even the most remote and complex sites. Despite some initial resistance, the system quickly became an integral part of the company’s safety and control framework, ensuring discipline without additional human resources.

“The Worksober system helped us automate and standardize employee sobriety control, especially across remote job sites. Although there was some initial resistance, it has proven to be an effective tool for improving both safety and discipline. We recommend this solution to any company seeking transparency and control without increasing staff resources.”
